Wind as well as rain
A 1-in-50 hourly wind pressure of 0.50 kPa and a driving-rain wind pressure of 200 Pa are the design figures for Nanaimo. On a slope facing open water, both arrive without anything in the way. That changes the edge fastening and the flashing height. It usually does not change the covering itself.
The permit answer inside city limits
Building Bylaw 2016 No. 7224 governs, and it names no roofing-specific exemption. We confirm the answer for the address with the City before the work is booked.
Ventilation on a house of this era
Attics on this housing stock were frequently vented to the standard of the day rather than to the current one. We bring them up to at least 1/300 of the insulated ceiling area, split across opposite sides with at least 25% at the top and at least 25% at the bottom. A re-roof is the one moment when correcting that costs almost nothing, because the roof is already open and the vents are already coming off.
