Who actually issues the permit
We go to the Regional District, which saves a week or two at the front of the job. The only procedural difference is the review declaration that replaces the standard planning review form.
Everything arrives by ferry
Material, the crew and the disposal bin all cross on a schedule. We do not start a tear-off until the new covering is already on the island, and we book the bin for a day that suits both ferry crossings. We plan a longer window here than we would for the same three-day job in Nanaimo.
Exposure and cover, both at once
Gabriola takes the same 200 Pa driving-rain wind pressure as the rest of this coast, on properties that are frequently both exposed on one side and heavily treed on another. The same roof can need edge fastening attention on one plane and moss attention on another, and we can tell them apart in one walk of the roof.
